SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Just weeks after Edward Ramos was convicted and sentenced to prison for the murders of three members of the Bologna family in a shooting in the Excelesior District, another man is in custody as an alleged co-conspirator.
Authorities in North Carolina have arrested Wilfredo "Flaco" Ruano Reyes on a $5 million warrant out of San Francisco. Witnesses say Reyes tried to flee out of a window when officers from I.C.E, San Francisco Police and the Rowan County (North Carolina) Sheriff's Department raided his home in Salisbury, North Carolina.
"Flaco" is facing three counts of murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder and gang enhancements in connection with the July 22, 2008 shooting of 48-year old Anthony Bologna and his sons, 20-year old Michael and 16-year old Matthew.
Prosecutors say Reyes and Ramos were both members of the MS-13 gang and confused the Bologna family with members of a rival gang.
“Today I share this major development with members of the Bologna family, who have suffered so much since the tragic murders of Tony, Michael and Matthew,” says District Attorney George Gascón in a written statement. “We are one step closer to bringing this individual to justice for his heinous crimes. Once the extradition process is complete, we will prosecute this case to the fullest extent.”
Police also arrested another alleged member of MS-13, 25-year old Jose Antonio Mejia for harboring a fugitive and cocaine possession after the Monday morning raid. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials had alerted authorities in San Francisco over the weekend that Reyes might be living in the area.
"They are extremely happy and relieved that finally both individuals are behind bars that were responsible for the murders of Tony, Michael and Matthew," Bologna family spokesperson Marti McKee said. The surviving members of the family are in the witness protection program.
At his trial, Ramos said he was driving the car but claimed Reyes fired the shots that killed the Bolognas.
