Suspect Arrested in Fairfield Teen Homicide Case

FAIRFIELD (BCN) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested Friday for allegedly killing 13-year-old Genelle Conway-Allen, whose body was found in Fairfield's Allan Witt Park last week, police said.

Anthony Lamar Jones was arrested at about 7 a.m. for the death of Genelle, of Suisun City, whose naked body was found on Feb. 1 by a passerby in a parking lot on the south side of the park.

"We have evidence linking Jones to this homicide and we believe at this time that he acted alone," Fairfield police Sgt. Rebecca Belk said at a news conference late this morning.

Belk said investigators identified Jones as a possible suspect early on in the case and put him under 24-hour surveillance. No other information about the case was immediately being released by police, who cited the ongoing investigation.

Police also released a statement from Genelle's foster family thanking police for making the arrest.

"All of us were so anxious for our children and community," the statement said. "Finally with tears in our hearts, we can now begin to say goodbye to sweet Genelle."

A vigil is planned for Genelle at Allan Witt Park at 6:30 p.m. today.
