First Photo of Woman Held 18 Years in Backyard Published in People Magazine

The first photo of Jaycee Dugard since she was reunited with her family after 18 years in captivity shows a smiling woman with long, light brown hair. Dugard, now 29, tells People magazine she's "so happy to be back with my family" after being reunited Aug. 27. People published the photo and comments from Dugard in its latest issue, which hits newsstands Friday.

Experts Determine Bones Found at Garrido Home Were Buried Long Ago

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's office said Friday that bone fragments dug up from the backyard of kidnapping suspect Phillip Garrido's home and a neighboring property probably belonged to American Indians buried a long time ago. Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said that while scientists at a state forensics lab were unable to pull any DNA from the bones, an anthropologist concluded the fragments were likely human, but probably old.

Police: Bones on Garrido Property Likely Animal

Northern California investigators probing two old kidnapping cases say some of the bone fragments found on the property of a man charged in a separate abduction are likely from animals. Hayward police Lt. Chris Orrey said Thursday that preliminary test results from some fragments collected on Phillip Garrido's property show they are likely not human. Orrey says more bone fragments found there still await testing.

Phillip Garrido Says Jaycee Dugard Was Denied a Lawyer During Probe

Phillip Garrido has contacted a Sacramento television station to express concerns about the legal rights of the woman he is charged with kidnapping 18 years ago, raping and hiding in the backyard of his home. In a letter addressed to a KCRA anchorman and dated Sept. 29, Garrido wrote that Jaycee Dugard "has been repeatedly denied access to have an attorney present during questioning," the station reported Wednesday.

Brothers of Kidnapping Suspect Say Nancy Garrido is Cooperating in Dugard Case

Kidnapping suspect Nancy Garrido's brothers say their sister is starting to cooperate with authorities investigating the abduction of Jaycee Dugard, the California woman who resurfaced 18 years after she was snatched off the street as a child. Garrido and her husband, Phillip, have been charged with kidnapping Dugard in 1991 and keeping her hidden in the backyard of an Antioch home.

The lawyer for a Northern California woman found alive 18 years after she was kidnapped said Thursday his client initially had mixed emotions surrounding the arrest of her alleged captors but now "fully understands that some terrible things were done to her." Jaycee Dugard was 11 when police say Phillip and Nancy Garrido kidnapped her and held her captive. Police allege the couple raped Dugard, now 29, and Phillip Garrido fathered her two daughters. The Garridos have pleaded not guilty.

Alleged Biological Father of Jaycee Lee Dugard Asks for Private Reunion

The man who claims to be the biological father of kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard is asking for a private reunion with her and her family.  At a news conference, Ken Slayton said he wants Dugard to know that he and his wife and children are ready to welcome her into their family, “I’ve had many nightmares over the years, wondering if there was more I could have done to help Terry and the baby. Now that she’s been found, I want her to know that our hearts are open and we long to be the loving, supportive and normal family to her and her children.”

The mother of a Northern California woman found alive 18 years after she was kidnapped says never stop looking for missing children because "miracles can happen." Terry Probyn was reunited with her daughter Jaycee Dugard last month. She said in a statement Wednesday that she hopes her family's story will focus attention on all missing children, and "As Jaycee shows, miracles can happen."

Investigators Pack Up Equipment as Garrido Property Search Ends

Investigators are ending their search at the property of Phillip and Nancy Garrido. At a Tuesday afternoon news conference, Hayward Police Lieutenant Chris Orrey said results from final ground penetrating radar (GPR) scanning are being looked over and monitored. She also notes that the source of an anomaly found last week has been determined to be nothing of interest in their search.

Defense Attorney Says Reliable Source Told Him Jaycee Dugard's Daughters Were Not Victims of Sexual Abuse

Defense attorney Michael Cardoza says a reliable source with law enforcement connections told him that kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard’s two daughters, who were allegedly fathered by her captor, were not victims of sexual abuse. As to why he kept the three hidden away, Cardoza tells KRON 4’s Sarah Pihl that that’s a question for mental health experts to decipher.
